Using o2 XDA Exec (HTC) as BlueTooth modem with MacOsX

One thing I couldn’t get working under windows was my o2 XDA Exec PDA as a bluetooth modem. Even with the help of o2 business support it would connect for a few seconds then just stop transferring data. In the end I bought an Aircard 3g PCMCIA adapter and put my sim in there. Of course the MacBook doesn’t have a slot so I was back to square one.

Wouldn’t you know (as people have often said) the Mac Just Works! Well, I did have to download a Pocket PC / Windows Smartphone Modem Script and set up the connection, but it works! I posted this blog using this new setup! Huzzah for Macs :)

You need to copy the modem script onto your machine, follow the instructions in the download. After you have grabbed the script pair up your device. (System Preferences -> Bluetooth -> Set Up New Device -> Any Device) . Of course you do want to “Access the Internet with your phone’s data connection”.

The connection information needs:

Account/Username: o2wap
Telephone Number: *99#
Password: password

Depending on your device/setup/network you might have to turn off “Use TCP header compression” for Network, BlueTooth, PPP in your system preferences. See http://www.taniwha.org.uk/ for more info.
