I’m sorry but regardless of what anyone says, even mr scoble, RSS right now is for geeks. I should know, I am one. And I like RSS.
RSS is unfriendly. So unfriendly only a geek could love it. Just look at the evidence
- “RSS”. Only a geek could brand something as useful as RSS with such an bug ugly name.
- The most popular logo or button says either or both of RSS and XML. WTF?
- “Feed” isn’t much better but at least it says something more than three letters together on an orange button can convey!
- Try and explain it to your mum or dad, and in doing so explain why they would want to. I’m guessing the majority of you either can’t or you lose your audience in a fit of giggles or snores.
RSS is great, but it’s not ready for normal human beings yet.
It needs to be ridiculously easy AND obvious why you would want to, this is going to take Firefox and Microsoft IE, a heck of a lot of education and some better standards for the way to present this stuff from bloggers.
