Put yourself in this 93 year old bloggers shoes

by Chris Garrett on January 25, 2007

Donald Crowdis, 93 year old Canadian blogger doesn’t want to “go” …

There are many reasons. For too long I have behaved as if I could postpone going indefinitely, and thus have so many things that I must do first. I don’t want my successors to find out how much I could have done that isn’t done, not by a long shot. There are numerous notes and letters I must write. There are places I’ve wanted to travel, but never had the chance. Actually, each of you can, if you think yourself into my age, fill out the list. At least you can try to understand why I say that I hate to go.

I think it is a worthwhile exercise to take what he says literally and to heart. Really put yourself into his age.

  • How much will you look back on with fondness?
  • Where will you find pride? Regret?
  • Are the things you wouldn’t want to leave behind your priority in the here and now?
  • Most importantly, what will you wish you had more of? Less of?

When I put myself into the shoes of a 93 year old I am thinking about family and friends. Funny but the iPhone doesn’t quite have the same appeal. That starbucks card can stay not topped up. I’m not wishing I had spent more time working.

Kind of puts things in perspective doesn’t it? Many of us won’t get to 93. We must concern ourselves with the things today that really matter. Ignore the bullshit. Decide what is important. Go where you want to go, do what you want to do. Take the opportunities. Laugh, love, trust, build and experience.

Stuff to think about, eh?
