Oh Noes O2 Can Has iPhone!

O2 is going to get the iPhone contract in the UK according to the BBC

Mobile phone operator O2 is reported to have won the sought-after deal to sell Apple’s iPhone in the UK.

I have to laugh because otherwise I would cry. They are my current, abusive, cell phone operator. They suck. Oh my how they suck.

Months ago we both decided to quit O2 in favour of a pay-as-you-go option seeing as since I have worked from home we no longer needed big-assed inclusive contracts.

First they told me it would just cost a £5, which they took. Then they told me I couldn’t. They then persuaded us, via their “retention team”, to instead go for a years free line rental with inclusive texts and calls. Sweet, or so I thought.

I checked with the customer service dude and canceled my direct debit with my bank.

Then my phone got cut off.

I called and it works out there was outstanding balance. No mention of that before but ok, paid over the phone.

Next month a bill arrives. WTF? What happened to the “free” part of free line rental? I call up.

“That is not what the deal means”
“How can ‘free’ not mean free?”
“You have to send your bills in at the end of the year to get your money back”
“That wasn’t the deal. You record these conversations, you will be able to play back what was said, and clearly that wasn’t the offer. Let me talk to your supervisor.”
“Hahaha, ok” … *click*

Yup, that’s right. The customer “service” lady laughed at me then cut me off.

So I had to call back. Explained the situation. I was assured this would be the last bill (yeah, I bet. Not.) so I paid … again …

I am dreading the next bill arriving. So you will not be surprised when I say I’m absolutely NOT going to sign up with O2 for an iPhone.

The ‘O’ in O2 stands for “zero chance of customer service”.
