This is to you Mr Andy Hagans, you have finally lost the plot, heh. I have a lot of love and respect in my heart for the Hagans but this time I think he left his brain idling with the brake off.
First he quotes Matt
One thing I’ve found in the past year is there is sometimes a huge disconnect between people who make noise on blogs, or might have impressive blogs themselves, and productivity in the real world. It’s unfortunate, becauses it makes it that much harder to find good folks.
Can I hear a “well, d’uh”? Of course there is, it’s just like real life! Think everyone who walks around looking pretty has something to say? In fact most people don’t care about actual performance, they choose those who look and talk the part. The guru-like blogger and cartoonist, Scott Adams says it best
“… why do the tallest candidates with the best hair usually win elections?”
This is why you hire salespeople AND engineers, this is why you don’t hire the person with the best handshake; presentation and substance do not always go together in neat packages.
As I said in the comments
There is sometimes a huge disconnect between politicians who look the part but turn out to be jerks, there is sometimes a huge disconnect between people who talk a good game and actually can produce in business, brilliant advertising vs poor product, great publicity lousy movie … online just matches the real world, surely you have worked that out by now?
Ever heard the phrase “never judge a book by its cover”?
Andy really steps in it by quoting on Threadwatch one of the most dumb-ass phrases I have had the misfortune to read anywhere
“Those who can, do. Those who can’t, blog.”
Not serious. Nah. This has got to be linkbait (which has worked, obv) … yeah, linkbait …, yeah that’s what it is.
