Little Britain Coming to America?

Andy and Lou in Little BritainLittle Britain is coming to America according to the BBC

Little Britain stars Matt Lucas and David Walliams are to make a US version of the series. The US comedy series will feature new and existing Little Britain characters, and the executive producer is Simon Fuller, the man behind the Pop Idol.

I love Little Britain but I am not entirely sure it will work. It’s a very British show, and that is part of the charm, I mean for a start it is called Little Britain, not Little World, right?

On the other hand British humour does travel, I was shocked how much British humour is consumed in Norway while I was there. The Little Britain and Catherine Tate quotes were flying!

One show I think did convert well when modified for the US market was Coupling, though I think it got cancelled after the pilot or something. I can’t think of any other series that have made it over the ocean in tact …

The startling news that they will be appearing in Neighbours though kind of proves the theory that British humour travels. Almost makes it worth watching the soap … although I think I will wait until the clip is on YouTube …

I think they tried doing an Americanised Red Dwarf and it bombed, they show the UK version over there and it’s hugely popular.

I heard bad things about the US version of Coupling too, though I refuse to pass judgement until I’ve seen it. The UK version was inspired though.

Yeah I saw the US pilot of Red Dwarf, it didn’t really have the charm of the original
