Bloggers Are Lonely Says Professor

by Chris Garrett on February 1, 2007

According to a University of Calgary professor bloggers are a lonely bunch

loggers are living in a world where emotions may be real but everything else is make-believe, says a University of Calgary professor in a new book.

I can see how this might work (read the article, it’s not long). Many bloggers are introverts. I count myself as one of them. While I find real life socialising saps my energy I can chat all day online.

One thing the learned professor might be missing is a lot of “virtual” friendships cross over into First Life. Tons of people meet up because of connections they make online, especially from online communities, forums and newsgroups. It takes effort sometimes, and and on occasion a lot of expense and organisation, but these meetups happen.

Yeh, yeh… I’m lonely. And a loser.

That’s why I travel the world, play volleyball twice a week, squash once, other assorted activities with my friends, snowboard, mountain bike, adventure race… yadda yadda.

It’s embarrassing that this prop was from UofC.

Yeah it’s pretty obvious he didn’t speak to many actual real bloggers, for example he could have popped over to D’Arcy … ;O)
