Thanks to Garrett Serack and Dennis Ouellette it seems a bit more positive about my “getting my arse to canada” prospects so my next question is what are the top web agencies in Canada (not for a minute saying they will accept my CV but you might as well start at the top!). 😀
What is the job market like in Canada at the moment? I am pretty fed-up with the UK and am thinking it is time to check out my birth place – gotta be better than here, right? I have googled and such but not found much out.
Anyone any idea if being born in Canada makes me auomatically Canadian too? Only documentation I have seen says I needed to have been born after 1977 which is 3 years out for me :O( My wife has been trying to find things out through official channels but helpfully immigration services have a premium-rate voicemail service rather than any sort of helpful human being.
UK IT jobs market picks up – The Register, UK
Looks like the UK job market may have hit the bottom and started its slow climb upwards (let’s hope). Rather like the stock market, it has to enter the floor of the valley before it can climb up the other side. Little to be optimistic about just yet but I am sure being ahead of the curve with our favourite lovely Microsoft technologies can only be a good thing for competitive edge 🙂
Been a bit out of action for a little while, a couple of people thought I had dropped off the planet. Not to worry (or depending on who you are, sorry to spoil the celebration! ;)). Just been quiet but back in action. Expect to see http://aspalliance.com/ articles from me again soon as I ramp up and get orf my arse.
Talking of being away .. I had a meeting yesterday where a lightbulb popped into being above my head (figuratively). All of a sudden I don’t have to explain N-Tier, .NET, XML, Web Services. I don’t have to sell the benefits of the technology any more just what the development will do for them. Clients are talking about this technical stuff to ME.What happened? Where was the in-between bit I missed?
Don’t get me wrong, not complaining. It is really nice to get into WHAT we can/should do to make things better for our clients than explain the HOW.
So it’s a kind of cross between MSN messenger, telephone and a p2p file sharing app – pretty cool not terrifically new but will probably be successful as the benefits are immediately obvious and it is intrinsically viral (to use it you need to tell your friends). One nice touch is the buddy list aspect so no more call and leave a message telephone ping-pong
My wife was a PA and medical secretary before packing in work to bring up our daughter. After I mentioned this new fangled “virtual assistant” idea that several of the lovely people on Ecademy seem to be doing she got quite interested.
How does one go about being one of these there virtual assistant thingies then? Does it require any special software or equipment? Clare did loads of shorthand, typing, audio typing, time management and inputting as her job and has all those qualifications so its not the skills, but how does she do these things remotely?
Microsoft is determined to be a player in the search engine market. Already they have about 12% of the search market with MSN, but they are bound to be eyeing up google as the target to beat.
I haven’t seen the guys live show but it certainly sounds interesting. Apparently he has a sort of modern ventriloquist act, but rather than a dummy he triggers a series of small flash animations. His animations have already been picked up for TV short cartoon series.
Check some “little howard” animations out at his web sites http://www.littlehoward.co.uk/ – some broken links and the like but he made me giggle
When selecting a colour scheme for anything from a web site to your home interior design it is often helpful to use a colour wheel and a refresher on colour theory. Here are a couple of tools to make it a little easier to find a nice palette.
A virus that installs patches??
“The worm attempts to download the DCOM RPC patch from Microsoft’s Windows Update Web site, install it, and then reboot the computer. “
“e worm will also attempt to remove W32.Blaster.Worm.”
I wonder if it defrags your hard disk too?
