I have only recently discovered how simple itis to have the wordpress software on your own server rather than the other version of wordpress.com. I love the amount of plugins and changes you can make to the basic templates if you know a bit about coding and feel brave enough to tweak it a bit

Very nice use of WordPress. It can easily be turned into a powerful CMS just as easily as its used for a blog with the right design and programmer behind it! Wonderful job

@Andrew – That can be a double-edged sword, but clients love being able to change their own content

@Selene – I like how WP makes it so easy, you are not fighting it every inch of the way

@Michael – That fast turnaround is one of the main draws, I am finding people turning to WP because they need something effective RIGHT NOW

@Joseph – Yup, I love Thesis too

@Richard – Yeah that is when I hand over to a designer

@Graham – I have a project on the go exactly like that, the client had a custom site and we are moving him to a WP based site and will maintain all his search traffic. It’s very doable.

Thank you Chris for opening up my eyes to this new possibility! Wow! I’ve been looking at how I can gain personal control of my own website, without having to learn web programming or buy expensive software, such as Dreamweaver. Then here it is, right under my nose and at no extra cost!

My only concern is that I have an established website address: http://www.freelancefundraiser.co.uk which does well in Google searches, etc. Can I keep that, or will I have to get a new wordpress address if I set up my own website on WP?

It’s great ‘cept when you have to make it look like the client’s existing crabby tables site. And that’s what I’m doing right now.

Couldn’t agree with you more, and I am in the same boat. Until recently I made my living as a Microsoft Certified VB and then web programmer. It surprises me to know end that I know do most of my work with WordPress. And that most of it is based on free tools! I get paid for my time, but there is no huge outlay for tools and server and support and …. And in addition, by actual turn around time is must faster.

I agree, and also LOVE WordPress! Every time I use it, I am more and more amazed by it’s capabilities.

In fact, I recently wrote a blog post highlighting a few new (to me) techniques on using WP as a CMS.

It’s great for non-tech-savy clients to update their own web sites, but the fun is for the developer to create it in the first place

Totally agree, WordPress CMS sites are totally the way to go now. Gives the user some control over updating their own content etc..
